What is this project?
The Land Conservation Foundation (LCF) wants to raise $5,000 to repair flood damage on the 2.3-mile Bruce Hannon Levee Trail located in the Sangamon River Corridor Reserve in Piatt County, Illinois. It is our most popular trail because it offers elevated views of the floodplain forest and river, along with opportunities for hiking, fishing, birding, and nature study.
What will this project accomplish?
You can see in our project photo an example of the damage that has been done to the trail. With the money we raise, the Foundation will fully repair the trail by hiring a contractor to do what is necessary to repair the levee while maintaining the natural floodplain hydrology to the site. This could include bringing bentonite clay and rock to key locations, repairing breaches when they occur, and installing seep collars to protect the culverts from future flood damage.
As proof of completion,
photographs will be provided to donors 1 year after the project is funded, no later than January 15, 2021.
